Shaded & Smokey Permanent Eyeliner in Valencia, CA
Not everyone wants a sharp, graphic line. Shaded eyeliner gives you something softer — a diffused wash of colour that sits close to the lash line and fades gently upward, like a smokey liner you’ve blended with your fingertip. Present, flattering, and considerably more forgiving than a crisp edge.
I’m Jeanny Evans, and this is the style I most often suggest to people who want visible definition but find a hard line too severe for their face.

What is shaded eyeliner?
Rather than one solid, defined stroke, shaded eyeliner is built from soft layers of pigment that are densest at the lash line and gradually lighten as they move upward. The edge is deliberately blurred rather than sharp — the same effect you’d get by smudging a pencil, but even and permanent.
It sits comfortably between the two other styles: more visible than lash enhancement, softer than a classic line. Some people call it powder eyeliner or a smokey liner; it’s the same idea.
Why shaded liner suits mature and hooded eyes
Here’s a practical reason this style matters. A crisp, defined line needs a smooth, flat surface to sit on. As skin loses a little firmness with age, or if you have hooded eyes where the lid folds over, a sharp line can crease, disappear into the fold, or look harsh against softer skin.
A diffused edge doesn’t have that problem. Because there’s no hard line to break or crease, shaded liner stays flattering on skin that’s mature, textured, or hooded — it softens the eye rather than fighting it. If you’ve been told a defined line wouldn’t work for your eye shape, this is very likely your style.
Choosing your intensity
Shaded liner ranges from a barely-there haze to a genuinely smokey finish, and the intensity is entirely your call. As with all eyeliner, I’d encourage you to start softer than you think you want — we can always deepen it at your perfecting session, and a soft result is far easier to live with than one that’s heavier than you’d hoped.
Prefer something crisper? See classic & designer eyeliner. Want it invisible? See lash enhancement.
What to expect
Shaded liner is built up in soft layers, so the appointment is gentle and unhurried. Numbing is used throughout. Expect mild swelling for a day or two, and a finish that looks deeper at first before softening noticeably as it heals — usually more than people expect, which is why we build it in two visits and refine at the perfecting session.

Correction Questions Answered
What is shaded eyeliner?
Shaded eyeliner is a soft, diffused form of permanent eyeliner. Instead of one crisp stroke, pigment is layered densest at the lash line and lightened gradually upward, creating a blurred, smokey finish rather than a sharp edge. It’s sometimes called powder or smokey eyeliner.
Is shaded eyeliner good for hooded or mature eyes?
It’s often the best choice. A crisp line needs a smooth, flat surface — on hooded lids it can disappear into the fold, and on maturing skin it can crease or look harsh. A diffused edge has no hard line to break, so it stays soft and flattering. If you’ve been told a defined line wouldn’t suit you, shaded liner very likely will.
How is shaded eyeliner different from classic eyeliner?
Classic eyeliner is a defined stroke with a clean edge. Shaded eyeliner is built from soft layers with a deliberately blurred edge, giving a smokey rather than graphic effect. Shaded is softer and more forgiving; classic is crisper and more defined. Shaded sits between classic and the very subtle lash enhancement.
How dark can shaded eyeliner be?
Anywhere from a barely-there haze to a properly smokey finish — the intensity is your choice. I’d suggest starting softer than you think you want, since we can deepen it at your perfecting session, and a soft result is much easier to live with than one that’s heavier than you’d hoped.
How much does shaded eyeliner cost?
Pricing depends on the intensity and how much work is involved, so it varies. You’ll find our full, current pricing on the pricing page, and we’ll confirm your exact investment at your consultation. → See full pricing
